i dont get paid much, only about ~$8/hour, but because i dont have to do much, i can work a lot of hours and still keep up with school work, since i can work on hw during at the job. plus because i work at school in the CS labs, my paychecks dont get taxed.
i've done two internships as well, one straight out of high school working at Fermi labs. the work wasn't terribly hard, was pretty interesting (got to take data from subatomic particle collisions down) and paid well ~$12/hour.
i did another one after freshman year in college working on SET (single electron tunneling) capacitors/circuits and helping to do analysis on those with a professor. that wasn't terribly difficult, but it was a pretty good experience. i didn't make too many friends at the job, since everyone working there was either in grad school or professors, but i made about ~$16 an hour. i've had friends who've gotten better though --one friend of mine was working at JP Morgan in NYC for about $40/hr after his 2nd year.
eh if you're not ready for college, then you're not ready. it pays to go when you actually want to go -- partying is definitely an upside of college life, but its not worth going into debt over (esp if your parents aren't footing the bill like mine). its a blast, you meet a lot of new people and experience a lot of new stuff. it's better to go on your own terms, but from a financial perspective, it does make sense to go to college, and i would suggest at LEAST taking some classes at a community college in your spare time. i can almost guarantee that you'll probably want to look into going back to school sometime in the future, and you don't want to be that sole 35 year old with a wife and kids stuck in a class with a bunch of 18-19 year olds.
but on the topic of girls...college is great. there are so many women, and hot women around that you can try the most outrageous things and have close no fear of retribution, because you'll never see them again. you find out what works, what doesn't work, and what different girls tend to like.
