The Xbox 360 console overheating isn't as much trouble as the power source overheating. If the power supply over heats then the system will crash and, like a computer, the console will turn into a stylish paper weight. Most electronic stores should carry the 360 power supply fan. This is a box like fan that encloses your power supply and cools it off. This fan costs 20 bucks and is cheaper than most warranties (good idea to look into it). Also, the xbox reps said that they might possibly be releasing a water cooled Xbox 360 around the time of the PS3 launch. I guess after taking into consideration all of the problems that the new system has been giving them as well as checking the top mod forums, they have been giving the idea some heavy thought.
This means that the new and "improved" 360 could potentially cost more (hopefully not) and the external power supply could be upgraded to an internal power supply much like the new computers and laptops, small and efficient. This would make the console even more like a media desktop which is the issue where many critics of the 360 stem from. (what the hell do they think the PS3 is gonna be like?)
