Revolution name changed

apparently nintendo realized that "revolution" was a gay name, but in my opinion they made it worse

Nintendo has officially named their next generation console, formerly known as the Revolution. Gamers going to revolution.nintendo.com can see a brief video announcing the new name, “Wii,” and the following text:


As in “we.”

While the code-name “Revolution” expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.

Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.

Wii will put people more in touch with their games … and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?

Wii sounds like “we,” which emphasizes this console is for everyone.

Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.

Wii has a distinctive “ii” spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play.

And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd.

So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you.

Because, it’s really not about you or me.

It’s about Wii.

And together, Wii will change everything.

I think it is gonna take time to get use to. I don't care what the name is if it is an awesome system. I think it is going to be like any other system. Do you remember the first time you heard of Xbox? I did and then too I thought it was a weird-ass name. Now I have two xbox's and a xbox 360. I think it wll take me a long time to get used to, but they need a marketing strategy that represents everyone because that is what games they have...are for everyone. Yes, as of now I think Wii is worst than the revolution.

i could see all sorts of fun marketing campaigns with that catchy name...although it sounds a little awkward now, imagine how easy that rolls off the tongue in conversation and how simple it is to type (just type wii and you'll see) not to mention all the slogans available.

ask urself what sony vaio means. i have no freakin idea either but it sounds cool...wii does not. they shouldve stuck with revolution. gonna disagree with tony tho. when xbox first came out i saw it as an oversized box with an oversized controller, but it had really good graphics compared to ps2. revolution tho... the controller is freakin weird...its complete novelty. no its not gonna be like every other system hense the code name: revolution. but will 1st person shooters be any fun on it? who knows until it comes out. but i do know that i feel bad for the people in the commercials swinging around hte controller like its a tennis racket. i highly doubt the obese people of america will want that much excercise out of a video game console.

...umm... seperate the gamers who like to use controllers from the gamers who like to use TV Remotes? URRR... Nintendo is seriously moving in the wrong direction...just to think...if they would have kept Sony licensed to help them with their consols (before they gave Sony the boot and came out with the Sega Saturn...while Sony went and put out the origional Play Station... Hindsight 20-20...

*yawn* old news about the name change.... well not that old. to me, i could care less about the name of it. if the xbox was called something stupid, i would still be playing it today. i personally can't wait to get the revolution/wii just because i want to go back and play many of the games i have, but don't work anymore. and i want to try out the controller. sure people say they don't like the look of it, or it looks stupid, but the only way to know how something is is to actually use it

heard about it while ago, kinda old but...

its a gay name, sounds too jap, i wouldn't buy it anyway, after 64 i stopped buying Nintendo consoles

yea the Wii after a while kinda does roll of the toungue caus i guess i do see it as WE but i as for mii. I will stay to the 360. mii thinks their games are too kiddo for mii
