you can play old nintendo games on a thing called a emulator for your pc. you can adapt a controller to use through USB; i mean i guess its a cool novelty, but nothing too special here. sega is owned by nintendo now, so that's why you can play old sega games too.
i probably will not own a wii, just because i dont want to spend the money, but if i really had 250 laying around that wasn't serving any purpose i would get one, just because it looks pretty cool. i highly doubt the wii will be the most popular game console (just look at gamecube), but it doesn't matter. nintendo has always tried to innovate what gaming has been about instead of bringing us the latest hardware. they keep production costs down, so they aren't losing money selling consoles like microsoft and sony does. wii online is free, a lot like how DS is free. it doesn't surprise me too much, since xbox live silver is free now anyways. wii online will still charge you for downloads, etc...just not for basic gaming. i don't think its a bad idea since it's not as if they're running central servers anyways. the good thing is the nintendo has finally gotten on the ball with using the standard dvd disc for games and has given their console a few other conveniences that it should like USB ports and SD card slots. i do think its kind of odd that nintendo doesn't include a hard drive and wants to implement an online system where you can download upgrades for your wii. |
