God Bless America, thats all I can say.
Honestly its easy to break things down like that, I think we all know that the vast majority of the world is under developed, most of the world is 3rd world. Problem is if we spend all our time trying to help those people we will not be helping ourselves. On top of that look at what we did to Iraq, we removed a dictator from a country where people had no freedoms, and gave them a safer place to live helping them one day hopefully have freedoms we enjoy today. What did Iraq give us in return? When asked on the local news the other day a vast majority said they wanted US troops to leave immediately and claimed they were better off before we got there. Our humanitarian efforts are not appreciated by the world we help. Until people are thankful for our help I would rather us improve our own backyard before trying to help improve someone elses backyard. I have said this before, our country is not near perfect, we still have starving homeless children in our own country, until our country has no more hunger and no more poverty I really don't care that much about the rest of the world. When we finally reach that point then by all means lets help the world reach what we have. |

Homless in Africa, and homeless in USA are different but both still homeless. If the Gov't are not willing to help out their own people, and will not accept foreign aid because we are hated by 99% of the globe, why should we help them out? Again I feel sorry for these people not trying to say I dont, but to me its not something we should fret over until we fix our own problems. I know tessler will come in here and counter all my points but I my mind is made up I will not change my opinion on these things. Last edited by QUINN : 10-29-2007 at 11:19 PM. |

Disregarding your views on Iraq entirely, as narrow minded as they may be, keep in mind that the majority of those in poverty do not live in war zones. We have yet to provide them a "safer place to live" and still lose 5-10 of our own soldiers per day. The amount of soldiers wounded exceeds that number ten-fold, and is often forgotten. Wounded not meaning broken leg, wounded meaning loss of limbs. Those are trained military personnel. Do you really think car bombs, mortars and stray bullets only affect our soldiers? People live in these towns they fight in. I wouldn't be very happy with the U.S. being there either. You don't fully know who and how "our" humanitarian efforts are appreciated until you see the responses of those we actually help. And I don't mean help through conflict, as our last several examples (going back to Vietnam) only really ended up hurting ourselves. Your grass metaphor is ridiculous. If I lived in a mansion, had a beautifully growing garden and a nice car you can bet your ass I'd help my neighbor who lives in a shack with dirt for grass. You'd be hard pressed to find a starving child in our country. I don't think you realize how fortunate you are, and I know that is said over and over, but it has validity behind it. Our country is very near perfect, at least by comparison. What makes a starving child in South America or Africa less important than a "starving" child within our own country? The majority of the children in Africa are starving children. Reason being they aren't developed to the point in which they can send homeless children to shelters, adoption homes and foster homes. Their government isn't in a economic situation where they can feed the poor and hungry like we can. They can't just go to a store and purchase cheap foods like noodles and rice because the closest store is 20 miles away, and they sure as hell don't have a car. Even a bike is considered a luxury. You really think that giving food face to face to a family with 4 hungry children, that they're really going to resent you? I hope to ****ing god you aren't that limited Quinn. It's easy to watch the news and pretend like you know what's going on Quote:
Who honestly doesn't accept foreign aid? I don't even think I've heard of such a thing. If you quote Iraq then you're mistaken, that is far from aid. Even worse than that: "we are hated by 99% of the globe". Now Quinn, I need to know, cause it's killing me, are you really so naive? Have you EVER spoken to anyone outside of our country? Better yet, have you received any of this information from anywhere other than CNN or Fox? Not raising propaganda, but understand that they are businesses and they choose what you watch, what you see. On top of all this you act like you yourself are going to try and aid the less fortunate people in our country. My ass you will, you'll sit back and let other people do it. You say we shouldn't help them we should help us, like you'll ever do either. So long as you have your wife, decent house, comfy chair, T.V and you're shotgun **** everyone else right? And of course, the kicker: "I know tessler will come in here and counter all my points but I my mind is made up I will not change my opinion on these things" Well that's ****ing sad. Thing is, the most your opinion can succeed in is a rebuttal, as you're in no position to have any other effect. Thing is, can you really change the mind of someone who doesn't listen? Of course not, and I don't intend to. What you seem to lack, and probably certainly do, is an open mind. The "me, me, me" mentality with an added "**** everyone else" at the end. You make yourself the victim by saying everyone is against you, when in fact, everyone, as the less fortunate, are the real victims. The video I Eat Snot made this thread for is rather non important, stupid actually. It's meant to strike a nerve in those that, ultimately, wont do anything to help the problem anyway. People, not including Quinn, will send it to friends, say "wow, I never thought of it like that" then order themselves a pizza and forget about it. There is much, much more I can say/add to a topic such as this, but I refuse to talk to people who neglect to listen. Quinn I feel sorry for you, and I know that falls on deaf ears. "Sorry for what? There is nothing wrong with me" but there is, and I feel sorry for the fact that you don't realize it. Ignorances is bliss, so I suppose enjoy it. |
