I want to buy a new TV! - 04-25-2008, 06:29 PM

I've owned the same 27'' Sony Trinitron TV since the summer after graduating from high school (maybe even before that I cant' remember). So this puts it back like 6 - 7 years ago (damn I'm old! lol)? (and apparently I love parenthesis).

Anyway I've decided to buy a new TV although I likely wont be playing Halo on it and instead will watch movies etc as I'm still not sold on the HDTV craze for playing FPS games.

Granted I haven't told my wife about this purchase and as such will probably require me to convince her to let me buy it but either way I want to get one.

I was thinking about buying this TV because it has the new 120 hz refresh rate. Has anyone played a game system on an LCD with the faster refresh rate?

I found it cheapest on Amazon

What do you think?

honestly, ive never seen a difference on the tvs. ive played on some hdtv's and its nice, but i dont need to see everypore on a enemy's body when i know im just gunna blow his head off.

i guess what im trying to say is that you dont need to spend your money to get that amazing tv when you can spend less and get the same experice as with a superbig price tag tv

IMO, I would just get the VGA cables for the xbox 360 and get a LCD pc monitor around like 19-21 inch. But it all depends on how big you want the size. I can play easily on a 19 inch. Smaller is better for me. But not waaay tooo small.

Just a suggestion, maybe you can save money this way also.

i got a 19'' lcd tv it plays everything fine for me no lag or anything for the screen, and high def. on 360 looks really really good.

It really matters what you want tho, price really isn't much if you want a big ass T.v. go but one, it pays itself back with countless hours of entertainment.

what you can do if you still dvd (forget bluray) and if you have a 360 hd dvd drive, get a pelican fan piece that has 4 usb hubs, a network adapter, a vga output(this is the best), the fan costs like 15 dollars and is really useful(and quiet). then just go buy a good pc monitor or use your current, hook it up and you have scrape graphics.

Once I made the switch to HD, I can't watch anything on SD. Gaming and everything has to be on HD.

Your best bet is to put everything through a receiver. I use a Yamaha 6.1 receiver. I am looking at a Klipsch 7.1 system though. Possibly Harmon Kardon. (friend is an authorized dealer)

Either way, your selection on your TV is going to be impacted by alot of factors. For example...

- Lighting
- Use
- Viewing angle
- Size of the room
- Budget

Once you do research on these factors, you will narrow your possible selection to even fewer. It took me 3 months of shopping and research to buy my current TV. And I am in the market for another one as well.

You could get what would be considered a great TV. But if you get the wrong size and the wrong type, you might as well throw your money away.

If you want some type of guidelines on buying the perfect TV for you, I suggest checking out Crutchfield's website. They have a plethora of information on selecting the perfect TV for you.
