Europe - 04-25-2008, 10:22 PM
My friend and I just bought our tickets yesterday and will be "backpacking" through Europe from May 20th to June 6th. I quote "backpacking" because while we intended to use our nifty and convienient camping backpacks, due to airline restrictions we just refuse to pay extra money to check bags in Europe, some fees as much as $36 per flight.
Now here's the agenda: May 20th we fly from JFK New York to Heathrow London and stay for free at a friends house. The next day we head to Gatwick Airport in London where we board our $7.50 flight to Dublin Ireland. Yes, seven dollars and fifty cents roughly. I never knew you could get flights that cost less than a Caesar salad wrap, but it was recomended to me that I look into Ryan Air. A buisness apparently funded by a wealthy Irishman who dreamed of provided inexpensive flights for his fellow people. Sucess. After a few days in Ireland we fly from Dublin to Paris and meetup with my friend's girlfriend and her female companion for a quick rendevous. We expect to spend 2 days in Paris, one for The Luv, the other for everything else (Notre Dame, Eiffell Tower, ect.) then will take the overnight train to Rome where we plan on spending most of our trip. After a week in Rome and the surroudning countryside we will take a flight back to Ireland, spend a day, then to London and back to New York. Backpacking through Europe with a carry-on, ****ing rape. /c&p |

I don't think "sucks" even comes close to describing it.
All-in-all we're spending about $800 on flights (Round trip to london, round trip from london to Ireland, one flight from Dublin to Paris, one flight from Rome to Dublin) which is absolutely amazing. But whatever we've saved in flights is going to turn around and bite us in the ass with everything else. |

Oh yeah, you'll have a lot of fun. I don't doubt that. But say you want drinks somewhere and it's 4E. That's basically $6 drafts, which sucks. Regardless, you're gonna have a lot of fun, it's basically impossible not to. But the last time I went to Europe 1 = 1.30. Thank god I never converted them back.
