um... lets see, if you see a hurricane coming, you have atleast 3 days to evacuate, those people IMO got what they deserved, most people here in Florida are the same way, they think they are badasses for "outlasting" the storm, when they live like a mile from the beach, it really is cool to drive around and see the damage though, and go to the beach when it is not that big of a hurricane, you learn some things too

Edit: changing the post count didn't work so I'm just going to leave it for now.*

i think the coolest photograph ive ever seen was of a man holding a shotgun in knee deep water with a serious look on his face...and in the background theres a bent over sign saying "Now entering New Orleans"

in my opinion the only thing the residents of NO could b blamed for is for not evacuating(not for simply living there)....... but if u want to get technical, the gov't could b blamed also because they deemed that area habitable for human living

but really the gov't could have acted quicker...and im sure everyone will agree when i say i am 100% sure that the US gov't is capable of reacting to crisis like this on the fly...they have no excuse

even though many people already stated this and the reasons i still will.
BOTH the LOCAL and FEDERAL govt didnt do enough, although some of it was the idiots who stayed.
the local govt didnt do enough because there we dozens of reports of people who stayed, how could they allow so many people to stay there when an evacuation was called 3 days prior?
the federal govt didnt do enough because they put Katrina "on the back burner". If a massive natural disaster happens, and basically no matter what happens, you should be there within that week, giving out supplies.
celebrities, colleges, tv shows, random kids who felt they needed to fix NO up did more than the federal govt IMO.
1 year has passed, and i still havent seen proof of any form of high-rank govt people go to NO or Louisana and raise money or support it.

and some of the people deserved it, there were tons of reports people shooting at helicopters and other people trying to grab civillians from their rooftops.

and again....... i dont think its fair to call the people that stayed "idiots" because,as stated before, they had no where to go.

if they cant go anywhere, stay and wait for help, dont shoot people and shoot at helicopters.
