im going to be bold here and re open a politic thread...but this thread will deal with 1 thing and 1 thing only......the events of katrina....i want to know how everyone feels about this....but i ask the mods to close it immediatly if it gets out of hand....and i ask everyone at GV to not let it get out of hand
i also ask that you donite say something like BUSH SUCKS and not have any reasons or anything following it that is remotly intelegant.... and now i will state my opinion in my opinion katrina was an accident waiting to happen, the place was a bowl waiting to be filled. I also believe that the people new orleans new it was coming, they just didnt do a thing about it. I think they thought it was just gona be another hurricane and they will weather threw it like the othors. But this one ended breaking the damns(or whatever those things are called lol) and it flooded. Now think if you are in that situation, your dirt poor. Everything you have has just been washed away. You have lost family members and or neighbors, everything is underwater. You have nothing. You cant blame yourself for staying, so who do you blame. The person in charge. WHY DIDNT YOU TELL Us THIS WOULD HAPPEN. WHY DIDNT YOU EVACUATE EVERYONE AND PROVIDE US WITH FOOD AND SHELTER AND MONEY TO GET BACK ON OUR FEET. The us is dirt poor, we dont even own it anymore, its your fault you stayed. And not to be on the harsh side...we are completly overcrowded and dont have room or the money to save 100s of 70 year old half dead people and people who can barely fend for themselves before the hurricane. I blame america and i always will...this country is so fvcked. and once your fvcked, you cant get your flower back. thank you |

hurricane katrina was a natural disaster, plain and simple. and with natural disasters come death and distruction, its a natural part of the world. they happened before civilization and will continue on forever and ever.
the governments role, the role that most people are upset with the most is in the post katrina effects. so you have to say "the events which occured post katrina" and in this you can say that the govt didnt do its job, i say balls. BALLS. shit happens, and you pull yourself out by any means necessary. you have to learn not to rely on anybody but yourself. (how do you starve a black family? hide the food stamps under the fathers work boots. moral of the story: when services are offered for free, people tend to like the options with the lowest work : output ratio). people blame the government, but the government had nothing to do with katrina. if you say that they did a poor job with relief efforts, you would be saying that the relief effort on a whole is poor, otherwise there would be no reason to complain. and for that i say bollocks...BOLLOCKS. salvation army, ONE, american red cross, habitat for humanity, peace corps, and donations from boundless schools, parish's, and communitys around the world helped get people back on their feet. i see nothing wrong with the post-katrina rehabilitation efforts, these things take time. the only part of the whole katrina disaster that you can blame the government for is the evacuation. with the whole superdome fiasco and virtual refugee's being moved all over the us, people tend to place blame at the easiest target: the govt. but think about it. look at the freakin population of new orleans, it was not the govts fault. its the simple fact that a CITY GOT HIT BY A FREAKIN HURRICANE. blame nature

doesnt really matter who the prez likes or dislikes. would u be better off completely alone with no resources in the middle of the desert, forest, or other uninhabited area of your choice? no. people are just freakin selfish. instead of just bein happy with what theyre given, they want more. and they dont realize that what they get living in this country will always be better then the cheapest alternative... becoming a hermit in the mountains

I have my sides to the story but i will get flamed if i say what i want and i know that is not the right thing to say in this thread, so i will say it plain and simple.
The armed forces and the health care personnel and the government should have had food and water the DAY that thing was there, they had people dieng of starving which is something that should not have happened, i think the hurricane was a good thing for new orleans, they had a lot of problems that were washed out in the storm, and a lot of the trouble moved to other states, which is still bad, but a benefit to New Orleans

The Mayor, and Govenor of the state are to blame if any politics come into play. They were the ones that did not do the evacuation of New Orleans.
Most people are pissed because of the so called lack of relief efforts, but as hoax already mentioned some of the groups that helped out, I will only name one more. Colleges, think of all the colleges that took in people, I know my college took in a ton of students. New Orleans is a mainly black area of the US, so the powerful Black Rappers, actors are making Bush out to be racist, which is just bullshit. |

I have a lot of opinions and views but I'll try try summarize it.
I feel bad for everyone who died and everyone who lost family, but (this may sound bad) they had it coming. I mean how dumb are you to choose to live in a city that is below sea-level and is DIRECTLY next to the ocean? If they didn't realize that something was bound to happen than thats their fault. Its like playing Russian Roulette and then *****ing (if they could) because they killed themselves. Yeah its a shitty situation but thats what happens when you put yourself into that position. And as far as blaming the government, I agree with hoax. People need to become dependent and do shit for themselves. America is just a bunch of lazy f*ckheads that are always trying to force their hand into the cookie jar. I hate Bush with a passion but you can't blame him for what happened. Maybe for the slow evacuation and support but not for the whole situation. |
