Blizzard needs to make a WoW that doesn't immediately cause addiction - 03-11-2007, 03:43 PM

Blizzard needs to make a WoW that doesn't immediately cause addiction, because I loved playing WoW but in the end I just spent way too much time playing it. Perhaps it's a lack of self control lol, but if they made it less addictive or less time consuming it'd be great (although I doubt they will do anything that I'm saying), I just was recently having withdrawls and wanted to post about it.

15 a month isnt that bad. i enjoy playing wow more than i do watching tv, and cable tv costs me 50 a month... besides any shows i really wanna watch i can torrent. the wonders of the intarweb

people like getting the most out of their money, and for the amount people play, its well worth 15... my suggestion.. just take a break, come back and you just dont have the drive you used to. start a new toon with friends and dick around like rfc is naxx, you'll have just as much fun without all the addiction.

I think if blizzard made a less addicting or time consuming, you wouldn't get the benifit out of your money. If it is less addicting, it wouldn't be as fun. Like Hoax said, just screw around in rfc (verit and I beat it just us two at lvl 16 & 17). It will be less addicting but you will have fun.

And if it was less time consuming, it would be easier to lvl, so you wouldn't have as much pride in a high lvl account.

Just take a break. And when you come back, it will be as fun, but you won't feel like you spent too much time; you took a break.

wait.....did you say nahx plays wow?

ummm yeah, WOW is addicting, thats how it goes. They make the game super large so ther customers stay playing it. 15 a month is ridiculous for a PC game like that. Not only would i never play wow because its retarded, but i would never play wow cuz its not worth 15 bucks. And i heard they are gona change it to 20 bucks a month...hahahah...ri godam diculous

The size of the game is half of what makes it so fun... instead of playing the same 4 maps and same 3 game types over and over and over and over and over again in H2... WoW seems never ending with things that you can do.

I'm not hating on Halo, I still love H2 a lot, it was just really starting to get boring, to the point where I mainly had to force myself to play just because I needed footage... and that took a lot of the enjoyment out of playing for me (which is what video games are origionally suppose to be for... enjoyment and entertainment). But yeah... WoW's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, I used to think about it like you do, Frank... magic and fruity characters and shit... well haha, the characters are still fruity, and it's magic, but whatever, it's fun as hell, and it's just a super chill/relaxing game. The only addictiveness that I really see is how long some of the quests take you... some of them definatly turn hours into minutes lol. Ohh and my obsession with trying to pass Elmo in rank... I'm 3 ranks behind him, I...Must...Catch...Himm...

See, I like both halo and WoW. But on this specific quote:

I disagree ENTIRELY. Im not disagreeing that playing the same maps on halo is boring. Youre right on that. But the WoW quests arent any different (that Ive noticed). Its all the same thing, but with different names for people.

Quest 1: Kill 5 duskbats and collect 5 fangs and return them to me
Quest 2: Kill 4 wolves and 5 spiders and return to me
.
.
.
Quest 15: Kill 5 scarlet friars and kill Captn Malarky and birng me his helmet

Those obviously arent real quests (though they are close). But its all the same thing with different names. That, to me... is VERY boring.

I see it like this, each 'quest' in WoW is like playing the same gametype with different people. Its EXTREMELY similar, yet different because with different people, they react differently to situations etc. I ont know if that makes any sense.

I still play WoW, but I will NEVER get addicted to it. Ill probably cancel my account ina month or so unless i start to get into it, but i highly doubt that. I play it before bed and it usually puts me to sleep. I dont like running around for 20 minutes trying to find some village only to kill 3 people then ave to walk all the way back.

You only use spells to fight if you're someone magical... if you're not, you use midevil combat style weapons, swords, bows...arrows, axes, even guns if you want...

People generalize and stereo-type the game way too much. Just because you watched the WoW SouthPark episode, doesn't mean you know the game in and out.

Yeah, but the difference is that the quests take you different places in the huge levels... so while they are the same style quests (at least for a while)... they bring you new and different places to visit, and new and different things to see and experience. I dunno, I know what you're saying, and I get pretty sick of a lot of the normal quests that are like the ones you're talking about... I generally just decline them and keep looking for quests that are different, but yeah, I dunno, I just like running around and exploring, which is why it origionally took me so damn long to start leveling haha... because while other people were running around doing quests and stuff, I was just dicking off running around exploring the maps and talking to people lol. And hitting on female blood elfs, you can't ever hit on enough female blood elfs

well phalanx is right, there are the generic killing quests where its kill this amount of people or kill these guys to get these drops, but there are so many unique quests that are just hilarious.

for 5 minutes me and elmo ran around beating sleeping lumberjacks with a billy club. sure it sounds retarded, and it is, but its hilarious and fun too.

At the beginning of the game yea, most are killing quests just for you to get used to your characters abilities in combat and what not, but there are some really fun things out there to do.... and wait till you get into pvp... ah man its a whole new game
