no. i only own a laptop, and its not especially good for playing games. i've played all the games mentioned above though, cuz my roomate owns a pretty killer PC. i've played painkiller a few times, it's quite fun, but i'm not all that good at it. it's supposed to be a good PC game, but i dont think its played too competitively on the CPL world tour anymore, as i believe q4 is starting to take over, now that all th bugs and patches have gotten into shape for competitive gaming.
yeah fatal1ty is damn good at deathmatch games. the only deathmatch game i played fairly consistently was the UT series (and this was way back when it was just unreal tournament). one of my friends is one of the top UT players in the nation (sadly its not too big on the competition scene). the only other game that i play fairly often is counterstrike 1.6. i used to play source, but i decided it wasn't worth playing on my laptop. too much hardware lag. i have a shitty 64mb radeon 9000 on my laptop, so not the best for running top notch games. if your interested in other games that are highly competitive though, CS 1.6 is huge for that. lol and unlike in halo2, online play isn't dismissed as "well it would be different on LAN". it takes a slightly different skill set to be good at CS 1.6 online than on LAN. some of the top players perform slightly better in each. |

Yea I play 1.6 more than I do CSS(mainly because the hitboxes in CSS are ridiculous).. but Im nowhere close to competition grade skill. UT2004 is one of the funnest games by far.. Im in the middle of making a frag highlight video from it. I can't wait till Halo 2 PC comes out for Vista though. I believe that I would be fairly decent at it since I already play H2 with a mouse and keyboard

hmm. i dunno if you know this or not but the problem with the hitboxes has been fixed for quite a while. if anything i would think the hitboxes for CS Source are more realistic, since they're done a per pixel count. from all the latest info i've seen, there is nothing really wrong with Source hitboxes (anymore). although this was a problem in the initial months of CSS release, it's a non issue anymore.
perhaps the only reasons why its not used a competitive game is probably because of the die hard 1.6 fans, the huge community it already has, the distaste for changing to a new game/inital backlashes against Source (which admittedly had problems upon release). i suppose if you like walling as well, you wont' like Source, but again i think the creators were aiming to make Source more realistic (hence you can't wall through concrete walls) etc... other than that everything is actually very similar to 1.6. BUT. EVERYONE SHOULD PLAY BATTLEFIELD 2 for PC. i played the pc version before i played the xbox version, and i dont know how people can stand playing the xbox version. it's just so much worse. and for the uninitiated, battlefield 2142 just came out. i guess i forgot to mention unreal 2007 also came out already. it'll be re released on ps3, but its my firm belief that deathmatch games are just better with mouse and keyboard. i probably wont play h2 on the PC, since i have no intention on making the change to vista immediately (not until i get a new machine). besides h3 will come out by the time vista is released (if not shortly afterwards), so no reason to play the old game right? |
