My costs:

$50 for cap card (after $20 mail in)
$20 for cables
Time, effort
Software, leave that up to you , but there are plenty of 30 day trials google it

You need a PCI Slot, (I'm not sure its name for a Laptop though), but if you just googled "capture card laptop" i'm sure you'd be ok. Also, I bet there is an ad on this site, probably at the bottom of the post that might lead you to what you need to know.

On laptops, I think its called a PCIMIA slot. It will be hard to find a capture card that uses a PCIMIA slot. I'd say go for a USB one (as long as your laptop has USB 2.0 your fine.) I'd say take a Dazzle 90 then get some AV splitters. Probably about $90-$100 for that setup.

If you don't know if your laptop has USB 2.0, post its name and model number, I can find out for you.

i have a dazzle dvc 90 and it rocks id say go with that. and the a/v splitters like fragger said. i did that but damn radioshack didnt have a female end splitting into 2 female end so i had to buy a coupler and then a male end leading to to female ends, but it works nicely
