Help compressing .avi - 11-02-2006, 05:05 PM
I have been recording all my vids with Virtual Dub in .avi format
When I get done with a game, a 10 minute game is like 10 gigs.. I have huffyuv installed, but I cant seem to figure out how to compress the video to a way smaller size, any help would be appeciated.. |

your capture card should auto encode using a lossless compression to begin with. does your cap card use hardware or software encoding? my dazzle 150 auto encodes videos.
after that and your done editing, you can use any number of programs to compress files even further. i use dr. divx to run compression. |

I have said this like a million times but I guess ones more wont hurt.
Get VirtulDub Get Xvid Install Both Get video you want to compress on to VirtulDub Compress it with Xvid That should make the file small but its still gonna be pretty big. Take the file you just compressed it put it into Windows Movie Maker or Vegas or whatever than save it as WMV Good luck |

Xvid works wonders.. I've been using that to compress my CS clips. For some reason whenever I used huffyuv it made the file 10x larger.. I dunno.
I want to see this godly quality also.

I record with virtual dub, I have huffuv installed, and when i tried to compress using virtual dub with huffyuv it made the file almost 2x the original size..
I'm using an ATI TV Wonder Pro Capture Card.. But the ATI software will not work on my computer for some reason, Ive tried uninstalling and installing it over like 10 times, and still no sucess.. So I've been recording with Virtual Dub.. The quality comes out very well, except if say I turn around very fast, it gets kind of.. blurred almost? like you can see lines on the screen.. |
