Yes but maybe I'm a fat nerd. I don't like how everyone is saying that because they aren't fat and out of shape and they play halo that automatically means that everyone else is in shape. Because it doesn't it's a generalization, and making up statistics isn't really going to do anything,
The reason why I said "fat nerd" is because I was at a loss of who else would want to label themselves an athlete because they play a video game. Obviously someone who has first hand experience of the struggle that real athletes go through would never cite their gaming prowess as a reason why they should be labeled an "athlete" Yes I play halo, and if I'm a fat or nerdy is pointless. I don't say that I'm an athlete because I know how to move my fingers better than other people. iRev pointed out something obvious yet it was missed by a lot of people. Hand-Eye coordination is just moving your fingers where your want them to. Adding to someone's example of the SAT's: people who are better at filling in the circles neatly have a higher hand eye coordination then others.IT Quote:

Ok you gave three examples...that's supposed to change my mind how?
And if you think that playing video games makes you as much of an athlete as playing football, you have little respect for football. Or as I summed it up "fat kid". Fat kid also meaning state of mind also i.e out of shape. Quote:

chess ISN'T a sport. read my post again.
Racing is a sport. maybe not NASCAR or drag racing, but i guarantee you that all of the racers in F1 and WRC are VERY physically fit. Unless you want to me that shifting more than few thousand times/race than pulling 4 G corners, decelerating and accelerating for a few hours at a time isn't difficult or physically demanding than you need to revise your line of thinking. there have many numerous occasions with drivers passing out on courses because of hte extremely high G forces that they endure. its widely accepted that the technology used in formula 1 is second only to the tech used in jet fighters and spacecraft. in case your confused formula one isn't 'indy cars'. a formula 1 car would destroy any IRL/CART/NASCAR car. f1 is typically raced in very complex courses that test a myriad of control/strategies that involve a lot of strategy and physical coordination and endurance. it requires a good deal of technical knowledge and physical prowess. WRC is rally, and is basically the equivalent of F1 but on dirt, snow, and gravel. |

"Used by itself, sports commonly refer to activities where the physical capabilities of the competitor are the sole or primary determiner of the outcome(winning or losing)" -Wiki Article on Sports-
I don't think gaming is a sport because of the lack of physical hardship while competing. Although it might be more of a preference depending on your reasoning for playing. I'm a casual gamer, and i don't try to perfect my playing abilities, however some of you on this site consider it a sport because of the competitive level you're at. I guess you could consider gaming a mental sport like Chess (respectively) but it's hardly even close. |

It's all good though, most people don't have an appreciation for Nascar, but it's ok, I understand.
