Xbox 360: 3 Red Light Fix - 06-26-2007, 01:05 PM

As some of you may have read my 360 got the 3 red lights of doom a few days ago, well i was pissed, ive had it over a year and its out of warrenty, so id either have to pay for repair or buy a new console, which is bullshit cause i keep my console and games in immaculate condition, anyway i looked up on youtube in the slight hope there was a chance of fixin it and not havin to spend any money, there was, altho youll need an extremely professional piece of electronic kit.....a towel.

Heres what to do:

- Make sure your console is turned off.
- Wrap a towel around your console, makin sure all air vents are covered.
- Turn on your Xbox 360 so the 3 red lights are flashin away all merrily, and leave it turned on like this for 15-20 mins.
-After 15-20 mins turn off your console and remove the towel, leave it turned off to cool down for about 30 mins.
- Then turn on your 360 and cross your fingers/pray to your god if youre religious.
- With a bit of luck you should see the normal green lights.

This worked for my console, i dunno if it will work on yours, just follow the instructions carefully and hope for the best. If your console is still under warrenty (if youve had it less than a year) then DO NOT try this, you are eligible for free repair so phone microsoft customer support and get it fixed properly. If, like myself, youve got nothin to lose then give it a go, im not sure how long my 360 is goin to stay fixed but rite now its doin fine and has been for about a week now.

Hope this helps some of you out, if not its not my fault so dont send your abuse my way lol.

Another thing to remember... MAKE SURE YOUR CORDS ARE SET TO Normal and NOT on the Hi-Def cords on the little meter thing where you have both options. Hard to explain. Basically I had mine clicked on HD and wanted it on RCA so I sent it to Xbox Support and they sent it back, rofl.

*thg here, .amp. asked me to remove him from the site, but to avoid messing with the forum database I simply moved his post count down to zero.

Edit: changing the post count didn't work so I'm just going to leave it for now.*

You can take out the whole mother board and cower some parts wiht soe plastic, then use a hair dryer/warm pistol to repair the bad connections.

I'm still perplexed as to what the towel actually does. Couldn't I achieve the same thing by letting it run and then turningit off?

Edit: just noticed it was my 777th post. woot.

So why would blocking the vent holes be a good thing? They always say keep it in a well ventilated area so the air can circulate????

They should put this on Myth Busters, figure out what's going on...
