xbox 360 backwards compatible?

I was trying to decide if i should put my xbox on ebay as i had heard that the 360 is backwards compatible. Is this true?

(ie will xbox games play on the xbox 360?)

Anyone have threads from msft or xbox to back this up?

you will be able to play the "popular" xbox games on the 360

ex: halo and halo 2

i think this is BS until someone can find a thread from the MSFT website or xbox website that says this is true. there was a lot of stuff in halo2 that was "supposed" to be a certain way but wasnt. same for fable.

Can nobody find a thread on xbox that says the 360 is backwards compatible?
